Location & Distance from Islamabad – Gilgit Baltistan Travel Guide 2018

There are two routes available from Islamabad to Gilgit

Route 1 (N-35 or karakoram highway)

Islamabad > Abbotabad > Batgram > Bisham > Dassu > Chillas > Gilgit

Route 2 (N15)

Islamabad > Abbotabad > Balakot > Kaghan >Naran >Chillas > Gilgit

Route 3(By Air)

You can also take a 45 minutes flight to Gilgit from Islamabad but due to weather conditions flight cancelation is normal

Temperature/Best Time to Visit – Gilgit Baltistan Travel Guide 2018

You can Vist gilgit anytime but the best time to visit Gilgit is from March to May. In summer Towns of Gilgit and Chilas are very ho during the day but cold at nights. While the temperature remains cold in the Valleys like Astore, Khaplu, Yasin, Hunza, and Nagar, even in the summers.

Road Conditions

Islamabad to Hunza Via Naran kagan is safe and full of beautiful lush places on the way. In summer just follow the route 2 from babusar top. While in winter as the Babusar top and Naran Kaghan are snowcapped take the route.

Gilgit Bridge

The bridge over the fast flowing Gilgit River, at the end of its traditional bazaar. It consider as the largest suspension bridge in Asia. It is 182 metres long and 2 metres wide permitting enough room for one jeep to cross at a time.

Naltar valley

Naltar valley is known for its stunning views naltar valley is 40km from gilgit and can be reached by jeeps. The valley is famous for its colorful lakes three of them are reachable by jeep.

Altit Fort

Altit Fort is an ancient fort in Altit town in Hunza valley. It is 1100 years old. For centuries, the fort was used by the Mirs of Hunza as royal residence. Fort has been open for public since 2007.

Baltit Fort

Majestic Baltit Fort is located in Karimabad Hunza Gilgit Baltistan, Northern Areas of Pakistan. It takes 1.5 hours from Gilgit to reach Baltit Fort. The fort is an old remaining of the fort that founded in 8th CE. It is the most popular tourists spot in Karimabad Hunza. Surrounded by mountains, the fort displays an exceptional site of breathtaking beauty.
