During his congressional hearing by Cambridge Analytica, a data mining firm, Mark Zuckerberg showed his concern over the possible influence of fake accounts on the upcoming elections in Pakistan, India, and Brazil. He believes that people with fake account intend to sway the minds of the public for or against any political party and could affect the transparency of the elections.
Mark took it as a top priority of Facebook to remove fake accounts to “protect the integrity of the upcoming elections in Brazil, India, Pakistan and other countries”
He further added that Facebook will remove fake all the fake accounts trying to influence the elections by spreading misinformation. For that purpose, he plans to deploy artificial intelligence tools. He also aims to hire 20,000 new employees who will work for the cause.
Facebook could be a factor with a huge number of people addicted to using this platform for all kind of activities. However, IT ministry has deployed Cyber-Crime unit to keep a check on all the illegal activities but addressing this problem from the source would really help remove fake accounts that are developing a false political judgment to benefit their respective parties.
